The Reverend Wilbert Awdry was truly a great childrens' author yet this is the only TV documentary ever made that celebrated his work as the creator of The Railway Series. At the heart of The Thomas The Tank Engine Man is an extensive interview we filmed with Mr Awdry in 1994.

The film's narrative follows the chronology of Wilbert's life from his childhood. His fascinating testimony is supported by a rich mix of contributors, including his son Christopher and daughter Hilary; editorial staff at Reed Books; author Michael Rosen; and Britt Allcroft and David Mitton, whom we filmed at Shepperton Studios.
